I love this. NYU’s Jonathan Haidt uses the term “the hive effect” to refer to the same thing. Biologically, he says, we’re 90% chimp—individualistic—but 10% bee—capable of melding in purpose and experience with others.
According to Haidt in his book The Righteous Mind, women, on average, score somewhat higher on traits related to empathy, relational orientation, and social attunement. Men, on average, show somewhat greater attraction to hierarchical competition, status contests, and aggression.
